Matthieu Ehrlacher was born in Figeac, in France and came to Portugal with 5 years of age. At 18 years old he started to learn saxophone and begins his first contact with theatre with the Amateur Group GATO in Vila Nova de Santo André.

In 2004, he came to Lisbon to start his studies in music at the jazz school Hot Club. His experience with bands started in 2007, have been played with Farra Fanfarra, Groove Intercourse, Inner Spaceways and Puntzapuntz.

In 2009 he did a workshop with the choreographer Carlota Lagido and was a performer in Monster. In the same year he performed a work, the result of the workshop with Martine Pisani at Teatro Maria Matos.

Between 2010 and 2012 he studied at the course PEPCC by Forum Dança where we had classes with several artists as Francisco Camacho, Jennifer Lacey, Jeremy Nelson, João Fiadeiro, João Tabarra, K.J. Holmes, Lisa Nelson, Loïc Touzé, Meg Stuart, Miguel Pereira, Mark Tompkins and Nuno Rebelo, Patricia Portela, Rita Natálio, Sofia Dias and Vitor Roriz, Tiago Rodrigues, Vera Mantero, among others.

During his studies at PEPCC by Forum Dança he did some works as the solo "My half" and "Title in black" (reworked later and called "At the table there is an accumulation of emotions attached by everyday cutlery"), and a collectif co-creation with Aleksandra Osowicz, Filipe Pereira, Helena Martos Ramirez and Inês Campos ending in the project HALE that still touring. He was also part of the works The Dross by Joana Duarte and blind belongings with the velocity of the circled knives by S.Cansu Ergin.

Besides the course PEPCC he works in Reservoir a duet by S.Cansu Ergin presented at Szolo Duo Dance Festival in Budapest.

Since 2012 he has worked and collaborated as a performer with Miguel Pereira in Op. 49, André Guedes in NOVA ÁRGEA, Miguel Loureiro in MINAJesque, Vera Mantero in More or Less, but Less than More, with Ana Borralho, João Galante, Joclécio Azevedo, Rita Natálio and Vera Mantero in SURREPTITIOUS (clandestine body) and Ana Borralho & João Galante in Art Piss (on money and politicians).

In 2017 premiered the new solo "Cocoon", a performance/instalation supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foudation, and continues to work on the solo "Banana Man". Both these solos as well as "At the table there is an accumulation of emotions attached by everyday cutlery" are part of a trilogy of solos, by Matthieu Ehrlacher, where the artist explores the use of specific materials: cutlery, wax and bananas, as a way to question the present condition of the suffering body.

He is currently supported by O Rumo do Fumo, is a member of the colective thistakestime and is a musician in the bands Farra Fanfarra, They Must be Crazy and Puntzkapuntz.
