Occupy Adua's land for a day. Occupy its trees and/or their respective shadows. Make a kind of ‘big picture’ of it, a 32-hectare picture, a picture on which you can walk, wander, discover, drift, get lost, and where you can ‘see’ the ideas, needs and desires for life that run through projects like CICS, Transition, Decrease and the like.
When Indirecções made me the offer, they said, among other things, ‘your work session can be theoretical, it can be practical, it can be both, it can even be climbing trees...’. Between theory and practice, the tree hypothesis struck me the most! And this was the proposal that I put to the members of CICS and several inhabitants of Montemor and that together we proposed to Indirecções Generativas.
The main objective of the ‘Culture and Sustainability Research Centre’ (CICS) is to conduct innovative research into the possibilities of linking culture with sustainability; into the relationship between the place - the local - and the world - the global, based on the ideas of ‘glocalisation’ and ‘reterritorialisation’.
