AISTHESIS is a Greek word meaning ‘faculty of feeling’, ‘understanding through the senses’, ‘totalising perception’. This is the name of the Brazilian collective formed in 2014 by six artists who decided to leave familiar territories in search of innovative creative paths.
After a first period of work carried out in 2015 in Brasilia under the guidance of choreographer Vera Mantero, the group that leads the AISTHESIS project is coming to Lisbon to continue its research and practice (mapping creative procedures in a contaminated zone between theatre, contemporary dance and performance, as well as the relationship with the spectator), through a four-week artistic residency in January 2017 with the choreographer, which aims to create (one or more) original performance objects that will then be matured and presented to the public on the collective's return to Brazil.
During their stay in Portugal, the group will also organise a series of activities over three consecutive days to showcase their work through exhibitions of previous works, workshops, talks, practices and other activities at Espaço da Penha.
